Kolff-grant for Suzanne Heemskerk, Heleen Arts, Joris Robben and Angelique Rops

Suzanne Heemskerk (Intensive Care), Heleen Arts (Human Genetics), Joris Robben (Physiology) and Angelique Rops (Nephrology Research Laboratory) have been awarded a Kolff grant (150-200,000 Euro) for a 2-4-year project by the Dutch Kidney Foundation.

No evidence for a role of retrovirus XMRV in chronic fatigue syndrome

Researchers from the departments of Medical Microbiology, Internal Medicine, and Experimental Urology describe a failure to find evidence for a role of a new human retrovirus in Dutch patients with chronic fatigue syndrome in the British Medical Journal.

4.5 M Euro for computer model of energy metabolism

NWO and ZonMW have announced today that they will fund with €13 M three Dutch Centres for Systems Biology, including the Centre for Systems Biology and Bioenergetics (CSBB) at the RUNMC. The CSBB will receive € 4.5 M to study mitochondrial energy metabolism.

Using revolutionary DNA sequencing technology, researchers at the Department of Human Genetics have identified a genetic cause of a hereditary retinal disorder called, Familial exudative vitreoretinopathy (FEVR).

Koningin Wilhelmina prize for Carl Figdor

The Dutch Cancer Society (KWF) has awarded Carl Figdor the Koningin Wilhelmina research prize 2009 (KWO). The 2 M Euro prize will be used to perform multidisciplinary research into the role of the immune system in the fight against cancer.

Science publication for Lonneke van der Linden (Medical Microbiology)

As a MSc student from the Biomedical Sciences (Nijmegen), Lonneke van de Linden (currently a PhD student in the section of Virology of the department of Medical Microbiology) performed an internship at the section of Virology, Imperial College London, UK. The results of that study are now published in Science.
