Prof. Dr. Bart-Jan Kullberg

Research interests include involvement of cytokines and innate host defense in infection, and immunotherapy of infection, in addition to pathogenesis, immunology and therapy of invasive fungal infections. Current projects include unravelling the differential activation of Toll-like receptors (TLR) depending on structural variations of pathogen-associated molecular patterns, and the role of TLR in the Thelper1/Thelper2 bias. His group recently has described the role of TLRs in immunity against invasive fungal infections and the impact of phenotypic switching by fungi on evasion from immune recognition. Translational research has resulted in preclinical and clinical studies on immunotherapy of invasive fungal infections.
