Wim van den Berg is a biochemist, is head of the rheumatology research lab and professor of of experimental rheumatology since 1992. He is a former secretary general of the osteoarthritis research society international (OARSI) and is president of the international association of inflammation societies (IAIS). He has received the OARSI basic research award and the Dutch Federa award for his life time achievements in research on joint destruction in arthritis and osteoarthritis.
Prof Wim B van den Berg

Research interests are focused on the role of cytokines and growth factors in chronicity of joint inflammation and mechanisms of destruction of cartilage and bone. Major expertise is in the development of murine models for arthritis and osteoarthritis and in the translation of experimental findings to advanced therapeutic modalities, including gene therapy.
